It’s roster release time, and I’ll say this: we were thisclose to winning the whole thing last year. But we’ll take another championship game appearance, and it gave us great pride to prove everyone who said we’d finish NINTH wrong.
Last year, we took regionals to be an introduction period for a few guys who hadn’t been to the NWLA Tournament before. Those guys all contributed to the team in big ways. This year’s roster will feature the same guys as last year.
#2 Chris Roeder P/OF
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 8 HR, 29 RBI, .315/.454/.562
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 56 IP, 5-2, 0.64 ERA, 120 K, 17 BB
Chris Roeder returns as a stud ace and a good bat, as well as the best fielder on the team. Deadly accurate with good stuff, he absolutely should’ve won the MVP last year.
#3 Justin Tomkins UT
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 12 HR, 61 RBI, .244/.520/.471
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 32 IP, 3-2, 8.09 ERA, 43 K, 45 BB
Tomkins returns as a co-manager for the fifth year, and will be used when needed. Could make a spot start, could play the field, could bat anywhere in the lineup.
#5 Ari Knill UT
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 3 HR, 12 RBI, .121/.392/.258
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 7 IP, 0-1, 8.57 ERA, 12 K, 6 BB
Knill was the fourth batter last year and produced very well in bracket play after putting up a goose-egg in round robin. A clutch hitter, he fills a utility spot this year.
#8 Dylan Frankel UT
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 1 HR, 4 RBI, .083/.560/.333
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 9 IP, 0-2, 4.00 ERA, 7 K, 3 BB
Chainzz won’t impress you with a high average, but he will impress you with his on base percentage. The guy knows how to get on, and he fills another utility spot.
#11 Ryan Bush P/EH
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 18 HR, 86 RBI, .288/.500/.591
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 100.1 IP, 15-2, 1.67 ERA, 257 K, 88 BB
Bush had an inconsistent year on the mound last year, finishing with career highs in ERA and walks. He still went 3-1. Good luck beating this man.
#13 Jordan Benzing UT
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 0 HR, 3 RBI, .059/.360/.059
Career NWLA Pitching Stats: 4.2 IP, 0-1, 3.83 ERA, 7 K, 6 BB
Benzing didn’t get a lot of play last year but he showed some flashes, including a great performance in a spot start, known as the Puke Game. He fills a similar role this year.
#18 Jon Suhre UT
Career NWLA Batting Stats: 8 HR, 53 RBI, .182/.469/.333
Suhre got thrust into action as the fourth hitter last year in the championship game. He got on base and he’ll continue to do that this year.
