Player Profile: Jordan Benzing
With the time to the 8th Annual Opening Day Tournament ticking down, we have started a weekly profile on our 2015 OCWA players. We start this week with 3 year veteran, Jordan Benzing.
Jordan Benzing is a relatively new player, but already considered a league staple. He burst on to the scene in 2012 as a member of No Your Other Left along with fellow rookies Ari Knill and Dylan Frankel. Over time he has a shown a consistency that is so key in this league. His average improved from .278 as a rookie to a solid .324 last season in a tougher pitching league. He’s also been mashing the ball more, improved from 2 homers in 2012 to 12 last year and dramatically improved his RBI numbers, finishing in a tie for third last season with 58. His work on the mound is improving, settling into a role as a reliever in the Pavlov’s Dawgs system. He does some of his best work in the field, compiling a 0.950 fielding percentage in the two years that fielding has been an official statistic. On top of that, he led the league in put-outs last season thanks to a bevy of ground ball pitching on the Dawgs. He will retain his spot on Pavlov’s Dawgs for the third season, and looks to keep contributing at the dish and in the field.
